Incoming Links: Quality VS Quantity

Link building is an integral part of search engine optimisation. So the question needs to be asked, should you get as many links as you can? Or should you try and find those high pagerank, highly relative one way links?

It’s a no brainer really.

Quality ALWAYS triumphs over quantity. Period.

The best link builders can spend a whole day trying to find one really good link. I will give you an example.

I have two different websites. Using Yahoo’s site explorer I took a look at how many links were pointing to my sites.

Site 1: 2600

Site 2: 7000

Site 1 had a page rank of 6 and site 2 (with many more links) had a page rank of 3.

Conclusion: Because of the quality of links going into site 1, their page rank was DOUBLE even though they had far fewer links!
